My top 5 black history moments are:
ReplyDelete1. The Greensboro Sit-Ins
2. Rodney King beating
3. MLK's "I Have A Dream" speech
4. MLK's assassination
5. the Million Man March
I agree 100% with Henry Louis Gates Jr and his opinions about black history month. We shouldn't have to set aside a month just so that people can learn about the past of our ancestors. This is something that we should willingly do own our own, but not everybody in society agrees with that.
My top 5 black history moments are; Mlk's "I have A Dream" speech, Mlk's assassination, The montgomery bus boycott, The Boston massacre, and emmett till. In agree with Henry Louis Gates and his opinions about black history month. we should honor the blacks from the past everyday of the year, one month shouldnt be set aside to honor them and then forget about the heroic things they accomplished
ReplyDeleteMy top 5 black history moments are:
ReplyDelete1. Thurgood Marshall in at supreme court
2. Malcolm X joins the Muslim Nation
3. Michael Jackson releases thriller
4. Oprah Winfrey gets her own show
5. Nelson Mendela freed
I agree with Henry Louis Gates, Jr., about him liking black history month, and also that people should be able to celebrate their own black history when they want to no matter what time of the year. Henry Louis Gates, Jr., made some great points about black history.
Top 5
ReplyDelete1)Rodney King beating
2)Freedom Rides
3)MLK's "I Have A Dream"
4)Black Panthers
5)Maya Angelou's works
I think the interview with Gates was interesting. He mentioned things, like the fact about how bloodlines will inevitably mix, that a lot of people don't think about. It is rare that you come across someone is 100% just one ethnicity. People who are racist have something to think twice about, including where they themselves come from. I also think that Black History Month has helped with learning new history, but I get bored with it after a while.
My Top Moments are:
ReplyDelete1. Obama Elected President.
2. The Rodney King Beat-Down.
3. MLK's Assassination.
4. John Carlos and Tommie Smith's Moment at the Olympics.
5. Million Man March.
6. I Have a Dream Speech.
7. Malcom X Joins Muslim Nation.
8. Hurricane Katrina Hits
9. Emmett Till
10. Nelson Mandela Released from prison.
Well i feel Like Mr. Henry Louis Gates Jr. covered the topic fully. I feel like blacks should have more than one month to celebrate history. To set aside one month is like taking off on a saturday but working 6 other days a week. We need to learn more about our blacks' past. I feel that it is important to know about other history, so why not take black history more serious. For it to be our on responsibility to know about black history is wrong. If we can learn about the presidents and other history in school, then why dont we learn more about our own people..
The top five black history month momemnts that I want to learn more about are:
ReplyDelete1. Little Rock Nine
2. Million Man March
3. Freedom riders
4. Legalize slavery
5. Emmett Tillman killing
I both agree AND disagree with Henry Louis Gates Jr. I agree with him because I believe that everyday is black history day but yet I also agree with the part where maybe, perhaps, one day black history month should disappear. The reason I say that is because black history month should speaks for itself instead of us having to celebrate it, it should be it's own celebration. The part I disagree with him is the part where he said that you have to be a "mutt" to be an American. I think if you are born here then you are an American.
Thank you all for your insightful posts. It must have been awfully lonely in class with just the six of you.

I am in agreeance with Hengry Gates. I feel as though African American history is something that should be celebrated daily because boundaries are being broken everyday. Also about the younger generation needing to know more about the history of blacks.
My top five moments in African American History are;
ReplyDelete1/ MLK's Assassination.
2/ Obama got elected president.
3/ Little Rock Nine.
4/ Black Panther
5/ Freedom Rider
I have to agreed with Hengry Gates. African American have to surpass many years of suffering, fight for what rightfully theirs; their freedom and their rights. Eventhough, the new generation really doesn't show interested in it, we should educate and teach them about the past the history and what give them what they have today and follow their forefather footstep and achieves even more.
1) MLK's Assasination
ReplyDelete2) Obama elected as president
3) Black Panthers
4) Million man march
5))Rodney King's beating
I would have to agree with Gates. I dont think that we should just focus on African American's history just 1 month out of the year. It should be tought throughout the entire year. There has been so much that has changed and so much that has been sone to get from there to here, we couldnt possible learn all of that with in 1 month, and we can remember all the things we learn 1 month out of 12. I think it should be something that should be tought all year around, beacuse it's just as important as all the other historical things that we have to learn about.
Yeah I know this is late, but I finally got a laptop that actually works. Anyway hopefully I can still receive credit. As far as my top Black History Moments are:
ReplyDelete• MLK “I have a dream” speech
• Obama Elected as president
• Ruby Bridges
• Rosa Parks
• MLK Assassination
I believe that what Henry Louis Gates Jr. said is agreeable for the simple fact that most people shouldn’t rely on a specific month to honor our ancestors. Although Black History month is a good method to use for younger kids in elementary school. You can have fun and learn at the same time.
