I believe that the statistics stated in this article are unbelievably outstanding. I think it is sad that the rate for blacks not owning homes is lower than that of Hispanics because people are used to referring to Hispanics being lower in the social class than black. If things continue to go at the rate that they do, i believe that Blacks will be the people referred to as the lowest in the social class. I don't understand why people blame the recession on their problems because its a lame excuse for failure. I think people were kind of dumb for thinking that just because we have a black president that race issues and things including blacks would get better. In the end he's still a president, he just has a different skin color from everybody else.
I agree with the article in the idea the President Obama isn't making much changes in the United States. Before the election, I didn't think of what the future would be like if he were president. I just realized how much he hasn't done. I knew not to expect that the world would make a huge turn around overnight. Change takes time. I think that the world needs to give Obama a chance and not to be so quick to criticize him. Although most of this article may be true, I do not agree with the idea that anything about blacks in the news have anything to with the fact that our president is black. That is no explanation for the actions of America.
In this article it is basically saying that prseident Obama has made our nation a lot worse than what it already was. I believe that people should understand that cleaning up someone elses mess takes time, it doesnt happen over night. The statistics in this article actually make sense. Like its sad the the rate of blacks went down for certain things. Most people believe that since now we have a black president in office things are supposed to autmoatically change as far as racially and that isnt true. People have to understand that things have to get better as a whole; not race upon race.
I found the article about Obama taking office and the effect its had on racism to be interesting. One of the statements presented that held my attention was Blow's observation that Obama could get away with brushing off the needs of his African American supporters simply because he needs his white supporters more. As president, Obama should care about the overall needs of all the citizens. I don't know how credible the author of the article is, but I don't think someone in a position as important as Obama's would actually risk pulling a stunt like brushing off one ethnic group. It isn't right and it'd still be racist whoever did it, whatever race they were, so they really couldn't get away with it. The author seems too opinionated and neglects to realize that racism isn't only against blacks or whites, that it can be implemented by any person towards any other person.
I agree with the article because during the Obama compaign and election President Barack Obama was talking about change and starting a new era of greatness for our country. He talked about changing the world and especially bringing the troops home from Iraq and starting a new era of racial equality throughout our country to move onto the world. However, since he has been in office he hasn't done anything that he has said he was going to do. Especially with the troops who just sent out a couple thousand troops to the Middle East today or in the next couple of days this week. I am wondering when President Obama's changes are going to occur since he is only going to be in office for four years. I hope it will be sometime soon.
todays curretn presedent Obama has many supporters and spectators that do not believe in what he stands for or the way he decided to change America i believe in him and i support what his campaign represents and thats change and growth. this article is stating that the changes that he made were not for the good, but i believe that in time significant change will be made. i do not agree with the article completely but i understand the facts that were stated about Obama and that America really isnt in a good way right now but were have a great leader and in time we will see change. when Obama was first elected, in his acceptance speach he said "we may not do it in 1 year, maybe not even in 1 term but we we'll get it done together", so from the beginning he knew it would take time to make a change and hes on his way.
The main part of the idea that Obama hasnt really done anything i agree with. But big problems cant get fixed over night. Many people are blaming him for the mistakes and screw ups, but its not all his fault. I mean if he hadnt become president the rates wouldnt have went up, but I think everything that happened would have happened. I just think that many people think that they can get away with it now that a black president is in office. People dont care how they act towards others its just that they dont care anymore. And i dont understand why he needed more white votes than balck votes. Is it because he wants to be accepted by everyone?
I kind of agree with the article entitled, "Black in the Age of Obama" but at the same time I do not. The part that I agree with is that ever since president Barack Obama was in office, he has not changed a lot, but he is trying his best to make the United States a better place for us to live in and it takes a lot of time and hard work to do so. I also agree that ever since Obama was president, people became more racist towards African Americans, and the anti-black hate crimes rose four percent from 2007 (as stated in the article). The part I do not agree with is that he supposively made everything worse than it is, I truly believe that he is trying and it is not his fault that people gained more hatred towards African Americans and etc.
As i read this article i really pondered on things that currently happening in today's society. In the article Blow talked about Obama's model for change. In this model Obama stated how there would be a change economically as well as socially for all. Ironically this has proven not so. As statistics show the economic recession has impacted mostly African American families. As well as the recession, public images of African Americans are depleting. Various incidents make the A.A community look bad, including President Obama. I believe we as a country need to ponder the idea of presenting a better image for ourselves, and also trying to figure out a way to bring us out of this recession.
The article had a few good points but some of the things that is was saying didnt make sense to me. Like the article said that Obama need more white voters then it needed black one but i dont really understand why. I know that the authur think that majority of the blacks voted fo Obama just because he is black which is mostlikely true. But there where other parts of the article that made no connection with the president or the presidents race, like when it was talking about certain black stars committing crimes, like Chris brown, and the movie Precious. I think that even if the president was white Chris Brown would have still did what he did and him beating up his girlfriend had no like to the president at all. And as fot the movie Precious, the movie was just showing things that actually happens between families. It really didnt matter that it was a black family because that happens to white families too. And as for the racism increasing in certain areas, it may not seem like a lots beeing done but he needs the people bahind him in order to make change. If thats not happening then things are going to say the same. Overall i thought the article was stupid and half of it didnt really have a connection to Obama, the authur was just beindg opinionated and stating what he believes and that doesnt make it true.
I disagree with the statistics and accusations in this article but it seems like Charles Blow is pointing the finger and blaming Obama for things he has nothing to do with. When Charles Blow stated the hate crime data which said how anti-black hate crimes rose 4 percent from 2007 and hate crimes against other racial categories declined 11 percent. He can not blame this on Obama.People are responsible for their own actions. Also when he stated how this year has not been good for black men. Chris Brown still would have beat Rihanna even if Obama was not President. You can not link Obama to all black people and you can not link all black to Obama.
I find what Charles M. Blow, wrote about was a someone looking at a glass half empty instead of half full. All the facts that he was giving didn't seem to have anything to do with President Obama being elected. We can't blame President Obama for the economic status that we are in as a nation because of our previous president. President Obama has to clean up nine years of President Bush's mess. I don't think that majority of African Americans believed that with Obama being elected there would be a change in American an rascism would no longer exist. Anybody who thought this is crazy once a rascist always a rascist. I believe that President Obama is doing the best he can with the situation, has the man who wrote this article thought about how many assignation attempts been attempted toward him. We need to look at the bigger picture, and that he si doing the best he can.
I think that the article showed a outstanding point on how blacks are since the election of President Obama. the article itself kind of pissed me off because it seems like they are blaming all the problems that have occured with the blacks on Obama and i don't think that it is fair. if blacks keep going in the direction that they are going, they will end up the lowest in personal history status. I think that is very very stupid for people too blame issues such as the recession on President Obama. President Obama may be the first president of color but there is no way that the African Americans should be acting the way that they are. They are giving people a reason to still be racist against blacks.
The large amount of cheap money is gone. No nation can not simply lose the computer related jobs of the 21st century and believe there will be prosperity. Even though he himself is the target of racism, Obama is put into a position of alienating and distancing himself from his own ethnic group. I get the feeling that black America is actually several groups, living very different lives. This article is very good in that it shows us that serious work has to be done to get racism out of everyday life in America and the world for blacks and persecuted peoples of all races. While it may be true that Obama could have won last year without black votes, the fact of the matter is that it is unlikely that Obama can win reelection without their votes and high turnout.
After reading the article I Think That "Blow" Does alot of judging on the behalf of african americans he says that since obama came into ofice that african americans have "food Insecurities" That i dont agree with. I think that it is a sterotype. Becaus Eveyone does not have such "insecurities". I agree with the fact that since obama went in to office that alot has not changed but i think that it will just take time and hopefully a change will come. I think that charles blow. Has a solid oppinion on how he feels and he is sticking to it. I think that he is saying what ever it takes to get his point across. He also made astatement about them lightining his skin To appeal to whites, and i dont agree because black is black. It dosnt matter how dark or light on is.
I agree with the article half way because yes things have gotten worst but what we have to realize is that it must take time to make this progress. Obama took office in one of the worst conditions, he has so many different problems that people want him to solve in a snap of a finger. Yes, it would have been great for him to take office and make everything good but people don't understand that there's no progress without struggle and this is the struggle. In order for all of his plans to become in a full effect Obama must stay in office for two terms and the next president must follow up on it also. We as a country have to understand that twenty people can't change this problem around and that it must take everybody to help out in this situation. So yes he can do a little better but this is our country also so we must help clean it up also, instead of just bleaming it all on one person.
