Slavery Differences
From the most recent reading in Franklin, you learned that slaves were brought to the New World and either went to the Caribbean or what is currently the East Coast of the United States and Canada. These colonies were either in hands of the British, Dutch, French or Spanish. How did the colonial settlement create differences in the way Africans were treated in the New World? Create a table that identifies these differences and makes this information easy for you to use.

The colonial settlement created differences in the way Africans were treated in the New World by showing that there was no need for the slaves in the Northern states because slavery wasn't really successful in the Middle Colonies. Many of the slaves that were in NY & PA were sent to Southern colonies where they would be useful. Although they did help to construct buildings in the Middle Colonies, they weren't really that much more help than the owners themselves.
ReplyDeleteThe colonial settlements created differences in the way Africans were treated in the New World because different people of different religions and lifestyles had different morals on what they thought was necessary and appropriate punishment for their slaves. Some people thought that a lot of the normal punishments were too much and too cruel to commit on people while others thought that they could do whatever they thought was right. Some even felt the need to trust their slaves and in that case the slaves were given guns and more freedom, while others tightened down on their slaves' freedom and forced them not to ask for anything. They could only get to them what they were given and nothing more at all. If they were to ask or commit, they would be punished immediately.
ReplyDeleteThe colonial settlement determined that slaves weren't as useful in the Northern States. Most african slaves were sent to the Southern Colonies for the simple fact there was work there for them. The slaves didn't have much to prove in the Northern area, slavery wasn't that successful.
ReplyDeleteI believe that the slaves in colonial colonies weren't treated as bad as those in the Caribiean Islands. There the slaves were disposed of like trashed and worked to death like animals. When it came to the southern colonies they still treated there slave bad, and their treatment of the slaves caused revolts in which many whites lost their lives and blacks were hung for the crimes. In the middle colonies it was a little more respect for the black people, you could become educated in the middle conlonies but it didn't mean you were treated right. In the colony of New York, there were still requirements for blacks that kept them from reaching there full potential. In the colony of Pennsylvania there wasn't much slavery because farms preferred to do there own work. In the northern colonies slaves there could get educated but that didn't eliminate all the bias, and prejustice against them
ReplyDeleteThe colonial settlements created differences in the way Africans were treated becasue everyone had a different religious belief and personal morals on what they thought were necessary punishment for slaves. some were arraid of their slaves so they had to bellittle them so they wouldnt get the confidence to stand up to them or to understand that their treatment was immoral. everyone in the new world manipulated slaves, they thouht they knew what was best for slaves but really they were just dehumanizing them.
ReplyDeleteThe southern colonies were a lot more harsh with their treatment of the slaves because there was a great number of them. They needed so many because they were vital to the economy, but they feared revolt, so treated them badly. The middle colonies were not very successful with slavery, their economy was focused on more commercial goods, so most of the slaves there eventually got sent south. Also, there was the influence of the Quakers and the SPG, who fought for better conditions based off their morals and beliefs. New England had a much smaller number of slaves, so there wasn't as much fear. This meant they had a little more lenience, seeing as how slaves were allowed more privileges.
ReplyDeleteThe Colonial Statement did made differences in the slaves life because in the Southern states slaves owners were more strict and harsh vice versus the Northern states where they are more non-strict but however they did get stricter once the slaves rebelled. The Northern states such as Virginia and Maryland thought that they needed more slaves so that their tasks gets done so they demanded more slaves. Down South, they beat their slaves and put them in wooden masks to "disapline" them. In the end many slaves got sent to the south anyways.
ReplyDeleteThere was a lot of differences between the way differnt colonies treated thier slaves. Because of the huge number of slaves in the southern colonies, the treatment was not so well. They were more strict on the slaves in hopes to control them. The northern colonies were easier on the slaves. The slaves still werent treated as equals but it was a step up from how the southern collonies were treating thier slaves. In there mid colonies, slavery wasnt every successful. The people in the middle colonies werent as dependent as the other colonies were on slaves, so it wasnt as successfull as the other colonies.
